Site:This site is set back one block from Seven Mile Beach at Lennox Head on the northern NSW coast. In the heart of the town precinct, and with strict planning controls, this site offered huge potential to create 3 luxurious homes only a few steps to the beach. This is an extreme marine environment; enjoying typical coastal conditions such as salt spray, high winds and sandy soils. Brief:Our brief for this project was to make the most of this large block of land which already had a small cottage on it. In need of some TLC, the cottage has been upgraded and extended to create an easy-living single storey home with its own street frontage. In the rear garden, we proposed an additional two adjoining 3 bedroom luxury beachside homes with expansive living areas at both ground and upper floor levels. Design Features:With views out to sea, ocean breezes and an east facing aspect, our challenge was to create 2 light filled homes which will be comfortable through the year. The form of the design has been carefully considered to compliment the surroundings in shape, scale and form, with an understated contemporary appearance. Skillion roofs and raked ceilings, along with large expanses of northern glass and light-well stairs draw light into each unit and encourage cross ventilation. Each home embraces the views from upper floor living areas and decks, with feature green roof gardens adding colour and texture to the street frontage as well as providing privacy and shade. Family living areas open onto lush and shaded garden courtyards at ground level for easy-care family beach living. Materials selection for longevity and beauty include weatherboard, corten steel and hardwood, creating a timeless 'beach-vibe'. Construction:Foley Constructions have recently completed the build. Featuring off-form concrete blade walls, polished concrete floors in combination with light weatherboard cladding and corten cladding, this development is already turning heads in this cool coastal town. Result:This striking development is only a few steps from beautiful Seven Mile Beach. Its relaxed coastal vibe and well considered details and finishes combine to ensure this building will be a lasting legacy for Lennox Head.
