Site:This stunning site at Mount Tomah, in the NSW Blue Mountains, provides the perfect setting for a complete transformation of a modest-scaled home. Set in amongst established gardens and with glorious views of the Grose Valley, the existing 30 year old home was in great need of some expert love and attention. Brief:While the home had good bones, it really needed an expert eye to see the potential to transform it from sad to WOW. There was no need for more space, but better use of space, and to create a sense of light, wonder, warmth, connection to the site and magnificent views beyond. Design Features:Our approach to this design was to mimimise any structural changes and concentrate on transformation of the internal spaces and external facades. Our clients passion for art and design guided selections for internal finishes and fittings. We proposed a new entry porch to create a sense of arrival and welcome. We removed the upper attic space to create a soaring feature timber ceiling, complete with skylights on each plane to increase light, ventilation and create a WOW factor. The external hebel walls were clad with natural stone and standing seam cladding in a colorbond monument matt finish, allowing the building to settle subtly into the site. We replaced all windows and door with full height high quality steel glazed units, allowing the outdoors in and framing views beautifully. A suspended fire forms a feature of the living spaces, pivoting around to face the newly enclosed glazed patio. A new gourmet kitchen has pride of place next to the sunroom, taking in garden views and plenty of sunshine for cosy winters. An extensive photo voltaic array with multiple battery store, under slab heating, increased insulation levels and high spec glazing have elevated the comfort factor for decades to come. Construction:Taking about 12 months to construct, the home was transformed by Kvell Constructions, based in the Hawkesbury. Challenging weather conditions, included snow, fog, extreme cold and heat - this was indeed a challenging build, with an amazing result. Result:The home has been completely transformed. With no additional internal space required, the functionality and performance of this home has instead been elevated, creating inspiring and beautiful spaces for year round use. The home connects intimately to its setting, engaging fully with the site in all seasons in comfort and exquisite style.
